Bishop Barron on Pride, Humility, and Social Media

WITNESS – His Excellency Scott McCaig, CC, Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Canada
His Excellency, Bishop Scott McCaig, CC, was born on December 12, 1965, in Kamloops, B.C.
After entering into full communion with the Catholic Church in 1987 and obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in history from Carleton University, Ottawa, he joined the Companions of the Cross in 1989. He had previously been involved in youth ministry and served with NET Youth Ministries. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from St. Augustine’s Seminary and the University of Toronto. He was ordained a priest in June 1995, elected Superior General of the Companions of the Cross in 2006, and re-elected for a second term in 2012.
On April 8, 2016, Fr. McCaig was appointed bishop by Pope Francis and named the Military Ordinary of Canada. The Military Ordinariate has 23 parishes and missions, with a Catholic population of 13,400 served by 41 diocesan priests, one priest who is member of a religious institute, eight permanent deacons and 40 lay pastoral assistants. Fr. McCaig was ordained bishop in Ottawa’s Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica in Ottawa on May 31, 2016.
Bishop McCaig serves on the Board of Renewal Ministries Canada and has participated in missionary outreach to over 15 countries in Africa, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia. He also serves on the Board of Catholic Christian Outreach and is involved in the spiritual formation of the members of the movement. He regularly assists with training of missionaries with NET Ministries of Canada and is a co-Chaplain to the Spiritual Motherhood of Priests Apostolate in Ottawa.
Reunited: A Short Film about Music and the Human Spirit
In this uplifting short film, directed by Max Thurlow and Nick Trumble, Noisey meets 93 year old jazz pianist Edward Hardy. Ed was given a new lease of life and relief from dementia and depression, when his care home discovered he was a talented pianist in his younger days. They reunited him with his ex-band members for a special performance, which proved the power of music for people suffering cognitive disorders.

He was in Toronto, Canada, to speak on the right to express one’s conscience based on religious convictions. We also look back at the Holy Father’s pilgrimage to Fatima, Portugal, for the centenary of the Marian apparitions.
